Skill Development

Last years task was to create a two minute opening for a thriller film in a group.

The skills I improved during this task included editing, working the camera and research for the project itself. I already had a basic knowledge of how to edit a film together and this film task helped because it helped me to understand how to pick the right type of shot for the meaning to be conveyed to the audience who were watching. I also learned how to add titles, credits and music to the scene but this was completely different to the Windows editing software I was using before then and this as helped with other projects I have done since then.

The second skill, working the camera, was a simple skill to learn after I had been told how to use it probably because again I already had a basic knowledge of how to use a camera like what we were using because of helping film work in drama and performing arts classes but this course has helped me to further understand how to work the camera and get the shots we needed in the film.

I had learnt that certain locations add different atmospheres to different scenes. I learnt this after I became location scout for our film. this was because at first I wanted to set this in a corridor in school but then I thought that the mise-en-scene would be completely wrong and so I went looking for alleyways and long paths that were off the beaten track.

The last skill, research, helped me to understand that research wasn't just copying and pasting work off the internet like what I had sometimes done in the past.

These skills will help in the future because they will help me to make my mind up about what path I could go down in the future.
